Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority Mahmoud Mohamed Aly has reiterated that the Authority is currently preparing a data base on activities and professions to unveil tax evaders in coordination with the real estate authority, the electricity and gas companies and other departments in efforts to unveil the true revenues and profits of tax payers. Head of the tax evasion sector at the tax authority Ahmed Refaat has explained that a new plan is being prepared to encourage voluntary commitment among taxpayers and simultaneous punishment to evaders. The data base includes a list of artists, doctors, lawyers, accountants and teachers. He said it had been noted that a number of taxpayers who work as free lancers have evaded accurate documentation of revenues. He said the tax authority has given an opportunity to taxpayers to amend their tax returns within a month from submission of their first tax return to avoid penalties. Ahmed Refaat has noted that the tax evasion department has been upgraded to become more able in undertaking proper investigative means to track evaders. (source :Al-ahram)
