European assistance packages to Egypt will focus on funding development projects, increasing European investments on the Egyptian market and reviving tourism, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Hazem el-Beblawi said on Thursday 25/08/2011.

The assistance also targets offering technical and financial aid to reactivate the Egyptian economy, he told reporters after a meeting with European Union special representative for the Southern Mediterranean region Bernardino Leon.

Beblawi said his talks with the EU official covered efforts by the Egyptian government to restore Egypt's money looted by corrupt members of the former regime, noting that Leon promised EU support to these efforts. Talks also took up the current economic conditions in Egypt and the EU recent assistance pledges to both Egypt and Tunisia, Beblawi said.
