Kouchouk: Supporting efforts to rationalize and enhance water-use efficiency through modern technology

Sewilam: Targeting higher productivity and improved crop quality for farmers alongside water conservation

Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam held a meeting to discuss coordination between the two ministries across a range of files, in a way that supports the water management system and enables it to achieve its objectives efficiently.

Kouchouk affirmed continued close coordination on all shared portfolios, noting its positive impact on the public interest.

He stressed his commitment to backing efforts aimed at rationalizing and improving the efficiency of water resource use through the adoption of modern technologies.

For his part, Sewilam highlighted the importance of sustained cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, reflecting positively on the implementation of various water projects in line with their scheduled timelines.

The meeting also reviewed the status of a proposed protocol involving the ministries of water resources and irrigation, agriculture, and finance, alongside national banks, to finance projects for transitioning to modern irrigation systems.

Sewilam underlined the necessity of adopting modern irrigation systems across all sandy lands in accordance with the Water Resources and Irrigation Law, in parallel with canal rehabilitation works and the application of modern on-farm agricultural practices.

He noted this would support farmers by increasing productivity, improving crop quality, conserving water, enhancing water management, and ensuring the availability of water in the required quantities and at appropriate timings.
