Finance Minister, Dr. Mohamed Maait: First season of electronic tax returns by natural person was successful
The collaboration of each employee in the system was the cause of such success. Thanks are extended to Tax Authority officers
- Formidable challenges were faced in this season. However, success is achieved by reaching out to small taxpayers to strengthen efforts of the informal economy integration and tax revenue system control.
- By dint of the Tax Authority’s employee efforts, each in his/her position, the challenges faced, during the season, were addressed successfully.
- Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority, Reda Abdel Kader: The Finance Minister's support was behind the season's big success. The Authority is also looking forward to have a successful season for legal persons.
First of all, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohamed Maait, said that the tax return season for natural persons ended successfully. Despite the formidable challenges that faced the electronic system which is being established for the first time within the natural persons’ tax return season, success in reaching desired targets was achieved.
In parallel, the Minister pointed out that all the said measures would not have been successful unless through the support of the political leadership which is seeking to apply digital transformation, employ electronic system in governmental bodies, and promote the Egyptian economy to the highest levels. The new system establishment is considered one of the Ministry of finance’s projects and efforts to upgrade and automate the government services provided to citizens in order to ensure more easiness, save time, and end jams in accessing such services, the minister emphasized.
According to the Minister: “Every employee working in the Egyptian Tax Authority must be proud of the concrete results achieved for making such season successful. This season’s success efforts and field trips were personally followed up on a real-time basis, which certainly contributed to reaching out to small taxpayers, raising tax awareness and positivity among citizens. Therefore, this will support the efforts of the Ministry of Finance to integrate the informal economy”.
In the same context, Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority, Reda Abdel Kader, confirmed that the electronic tax return system played an important role to ensure convenience for taxpayers in terms of saving time and effort, especially amidst the Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Similarly, this season witnessed major challenges, particularly in reaching out to small taxpayers. However, by the the efforts of the Authority’s employees, each in his/her position, the Authority had successfully overcome these challenges. Thanks were extended to Dr. Mohamed Maait, the Minister of Finance, as explained by Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority. The Head also said that this success was backed by the Minister of Finance’s support, guidance, continuous and consistent follow-up of all developments during the season, and provision of all necessities to overcome the challenges faced by the Authority. Moreover, the Head thanked Dr. Ehab Abu Aish, Deputy Minister of Finance for Public Treasury Affairs, who had spared no effort in following up all actions taken by the Authority to reach out to small taxpayers, raise their awareness on a daily basis, and provide all means of support to the Authority. In addition, thanks were expressed to all personnel who are working in the Authority for their dedication to work during the tax returns’ season and for their exerted efforts, and wishing them all success and welfare.
The Tax Authority has taken all measures to ensure the success of the tax returns season for natural persons, to provide guidance and awareness-raising, and to provide free technical support to facilitate for taxpayers the electronic filing of their tax returns. The Authority has responded to the demands of institutions of the civil society and taxation, as well as different syndicates, such as the Authority’s response to the lawyers’ syndicate by establishing a standing committee from the Authority to assist syndicate members in submitting their tax returns electronically, whether the income tax return, or the value-added tax return, in the headquarter of the General Syndicate, as Abdel Kader clarified.
Finally, the Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority confirmed that the following experiences were successful: “mobile cars” experience, which travel across all the Republic’s governorates. The purpose of these cars was to raise awareness of taxpayers on how to register tax returns electronically, as well as to provide technical support to them through teams of volunteers everywhere. The cooperation experience with the village-level community development associations was also successful, as it facilitates procedures for taxpayers, “simpletons” in specific, and raises their tax awareness, so that they do not fall as an easy prey to those who want to exploit them against money. Lastly, the cooperation experience with the syndicates and Union of Chambers of Commerce was also successful, as it simplifies the submission procedures of tax returns.
