Finance Minister Extends Real Estate Tax Return Filing Deadline to End of September
Kouchouk: Additional Opportunity to Benefit from New Facilities Through Upgraded Mobile App
Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk announced the extension of the deadline for submitting real estate tax returns until the end of next September, providing taxpayers with additional time to benefit from a package of new tax facilities available through the Ministry's mobile application, which is currently being enhanced based on users' feedback and suggestions.
The Minister explained that the package includes a 25% discount on the tax due for residential properties and a 10% discount for non-residential properties. Taxpayers will also receive an additional 5% discount when making advance tax payments ranging from EGP 200 to EGP 1,000, depending on the type of property.
Kouchouk added that late payment charges will be waived for taxpayers who settle the principal amount of their real estate tax liabilities by October 2, as part of the Ministry's efforts to encourage voluntary compliance and ease taxpayers' financial obligations.
He also noted that owner-occupied family residences valued at less than EGP 8 million remain exempt from the real estate tax, adding that exemption requests can now be submitted electronically together with the tax return through the digital platform.
The Minister highlighted several new procedural reforms, including, for the first time, allowing property owners with multiple units to submit a single tax return covering all eligible properties.
He also confirmed that electronic payment receipts are now officially accepted, further simplifying procedures and reducing administrative burdens on taxpayers.
Kouchouk emphasized that the Ministry's objective is to streamline tax procedures, reduce compliance costs and obligations, and make tax services more accessible and convenient for citizens through continued digital transformation.
Concluding his remarks, the Minister stressed that the true measure of any successful tax reform lies in the trust it builds with taxpayers and the facilitation measures it provides to encourage voluntary compliance. He reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to achieving these goals through continuous improvements to the tax system and taxpayer services.
