Ahmed Kouchouk, the new Minister of Finance, headed to Brazil to participate in the meetings of finance ministers and central bank governors of the G20, starting tomorrow, Thursday, in his first international stop after assuming responsibility for the Ministry of Finance.
During his participation in the meetings of finance ministers and central bank governors of the G20 in Brazil, the new Minister of Finance is keen to adopt the balanced economic discourse pursued by the Egyptian government in a way that is more aware of global, regional and local challenges, and more open to international investors as well. This reflects the priorities of Egypt during the coming stage.
“Kouchouk” presents Egyptian visions for supporting the growth of the global economy, the green transformation by stimulating sustainable financing, and developing and reforming the global financial structure and the international tax system. He reviews the mechanisms for optimally exploiting the potential of emerging economies to enhance their capabilities and contribute to the advancement of the global economy, explaining that Egypt seeks to unify visions, coordinate positions, and deepen cooperation with the emerging economies of the G20 for the benefit of Egypt, and emerging economies -especially African economies - as well.
The minister assured that the Egyptian economy is still affected by global and regional geopolitical tensions, but at the same time it has begun to “adapt” to these difficult circumstances, as the Egyptian government pushes recovery efforts targeting sustainable growth, which is based on maximizing domestic production and stimulating exports.
“During the coming period, we aim to build sustainable financial policies that create greater financial space to expand spending on health, education, and social protection” added Kouchouk, pointing out that we are also working to improve the relationship between the government and investors to ensure investment flows and achieve sustainable development, as we aim to establish a stimulating business environment based on preferential advantages, competitive neutrality, and simplification of procedures.
