Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority Mahmoud Mohamed Aly has announced that the Authority has prepared a plan to increase the use of the internet in tax processing to reduce on paper documents in efforts to upgrade the communications sector and support taxpayers. Mr. Mahmoud noted that the plan will focus on submitting tax returns and e-payments. His statement came in an expanded meeting with representatives of leading accounting houses to which guide offices and service stations have been annexed. The tax chief added that the objective is to set up tax service stations at accounting offices to eliminate traditional sensitivities which recur between the tax authority and the accountants and consequently encourage the perception of accountants as lead players in the tax formula. Accountants have also submitted a number of proposals to upgrade the tax service station who urged the availability of the nation’s official emblem or stamp at the service stations receiving tax return to stamp tax payment receipts. Accountants have also called for greater authority among the tax service points to assist in eradicating tax disputes based on founded principles where the latter should become referral points to be copied in similar situations. Accountants have gone further to demand that tax service points should have greater access to receive all forms of tax returns, appeal tax cases and receive tax payments, becoming in themselves viable tax entities where accountants can assist the authority and become tax tools on the latter’s behalf.
