All strategic goods are available & the public treasury covers all increases in their international prices

The Ministerial Committee of Economic Performance Follow-Up held its first meeting today under the chairmanship of Egyptian Finance Minister, Dr. Samir Radwan. The committee discussed a number of urgent issues, most important among which are the files of employment, appointing temporary workers, wages, the strategic reserve of the staple goods and expanding the social security umbrella.

Dr. Radwan said the ministerial committee took a number of measures concerning employment and appointing temporary labour. Procedures of appointment with comprehensive remuneration have already been launched in all government bodies for those who have been in their temporary jobs for three years.  The system will include all who qualify in the following years.

As for temporary employees who have spent less than a year in their jobs, they will sign annual contracts with comprehensive remuneration to ameliorate their wages and secure permanence in their jobs.

Workers employed on seasonal or daily basis will be catered for through a governmental body and mechanisms that will protect their rights and permanent work.

The committee, in addition, discussed immediate activation of the national program for employment and wages, and took some relevant active measures.

Furthermore, the committee asserted that there is a strategic reserve of 12 essential commodities, including wheat, sugar, cooking oil, etc., declaring that all staple and essential goods are available on the market. The committee emphasises the fact that the public treasury will cover any international rise in the prices of these commodities to ensure the citizens get them at the regular cost. More Egyptian families that are in bad need of social care will be included under the social security umbrella.

The meeting was attended by ministers of Petroleum, Electricity, Agriculture, International Cooperation, Communications & Technology, and Manpower, in addition to the chairmen of the Central Authority for Organization & Administration and Information and Decision Support Centre, and a number of assistants of the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Trade & Industry.
