The Ministry of Finance, in cooperation with UNICEF, launches a “Budget Transparency” series of published reports that aim at engaging citizens with budget processes through making budget information, including childcare allocations, available in a simplified engaging way.
"We are keen on consolidating our efforts to become more interactive and better respond to the aspirations and hopes of youth and children. Furthermore, we seek to make effective policies that appeal to people's most pressing needs and to make available comprehensive and simple information to citizens through our published reports, especially in the current challenging times" Ahmed Kouchouk, Vice Minister of Finance for Macro Fiscal Policies and Institutional Reform
Kouchouk acknowledged that this cooperation with UNICEF is part of the joint efforts aimed at enhancing transparency and citizen engagement in budget processes in accordance with internationally recognized standards.
The current FY2020/2021 budget fulfills the constitutional spending entitlements on education (6% of GDP), health (3% of GDP) and scientific research (1% of GDP) and gives special attention to youth and children through financing programs that are directed to support and care for their education, health and social wellbeing.
Kouchouk added that this series highlights the fiscal measures taken by the government to address the negative effects of the pandemic, where 100 billion pounds have been allocated to support the comprehensive plan to counterbalance the repercussions of the pandemic and to support the economic sectors and citizens most affected.
Dr.Fazlul Haque, UNICEF Deputy Representative in Egypt, said that “Investing in children brings great benefits to families and societies and contributes to improving public health, increasing productivity and raising income and economic growth, in a way that helps in the cohesion of societies. In this regard, the importance of UNICEF’s support to the Egyptian government is evident in making effective decisions regarding allocations for children's needs.”
