Egypt’s Minister of Finance, Ahmed Kouchouk, affirmed that the Egyptian economy continues to grow at a steady and encouraging pace, with a vibrant, diverse, and expanding private sector operating in a more competitive business environment. He noted that ongoing economic and fiscal reforms, together with tax and customs facilitation measures, are designed to attract greater volumes of private investment.
Speaking at the American Chamber of Commerce on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, Kouchouk stated that the government remains committed to a path of trust and partnership with the business community through practical, flexible, and effective solutions to tax challenges. He emphasized Egypt’s determination to drive growth through a comprehensive and sustainable economic vision led by the private sector and built on manufacturing and exports.
The Minister expressed Egypt’s aspiration to strengthen the participation and investment of U.S. companies in the Egyptian economy amid improving macroeconomic indicators.
Kouchouk highlighted that preliminary results for the first quarter of the current fiscal year show a balanced and stable trajectory of fiscal and economic performance, with a primary surplus exceeding EGP 170 billion, a decline in public debt, and strong improvement in tax revenues due to expanding economic activity, a broader tax base, and better taxpayer engagement.
He stressed that the economic reform program continues to advance positively, as reflected in enhanced investor confidence, improved market sentiment, and upgraded assessments by international rating agencies. Egypt has also briefed the International Monetary Fund on the reforms implemented and the solid results achieved during the past fiscal year.
Kouchouk added that, for the first time, the state ownership policy and privatization program is opening new investment channels for the private sector in areas such as airports, insurance, and telecommunications. He further noted that financial and non-financial incentives are under consideration to encourage more companies to list on the Egyptian Exchange and increase market activity, emphasizing that the Egyptian market is well-positioned to attract hundreds of new private-sector firms and deliver strong investment returns.
