The sales tax office in the Faisal District in Giza has returned 2.7 million pounds to exporters registered in the last two months in efforts to reiterate sincere commitment to the law defining the tax rate at zero on exports. The announcement was made by head of the tax authority Mahmoud Mohamed Aly. Tax district chief Ibtesam Aly Ahmed said the district will finalize procedures to return the tax to exporters expeditiously as a goodwill gesture aimed at supporting exports and encourage competitiveness in foreign markets. The step has been described as ‘purgatory’ aimed at filtering exported products from taxes already loaded on the production phases. The tax district has made 238 new entries and has reduced complaints to 8%. Other news included the setting up of a tax guide center at the commerce chamber in Giza to wrap up pending tax disputes and encourage voluntary commitment (source: Al-Akhbar)
