Studying benefiting from the Canadian experience of developing small projects

News Date: 3/2/2011 12:00 AM  Studying benefiting from the Canadian experience of developing small projects
Egyptian Finance Minister, Dr. Samir Radwan, discussed with Canadian Ambassador to Cairo, Ferry de Kerckhove, the possibility of benefiting from the Canadian expertise in developing small and medium-size projects. A unified framework will be set to organise and supervise tasks of financing and training owners of the projects, facilitating licensing and establishing measures.

The government, Dr. Radwan maintains, is keen to develop the small- and medium-size projects sector and to increase their contribution to the local economy as some of the most important sectors that create job opportunities. The sector makes available around 90% of the job opportunities in most countries around the world.

The Egyptian Finance Minster added that his meeting with the Canadian Ambassador covered as well a number of the national projects which the Egyptian government plans to establish, such as the development passage and popular housing units at low cost with no compromise to quality within the framework of the Egyptian government’s plans. The current plans focus on public projects and services with immediate return, such as digging canals and building roads with the additional purpose of creating more jobs for the young while giving the Egyptian economy a boost to regain its high growth rates.

The Canadian Ambassador, in his turn, expressed his confidence that Egypt is capable to restore its vitality very soon, confirming his country’s support to the efforts exerted by the Egyptian government and people to restore economic and political stability. The Egyptian revolution events, he remarked, are similar to or have even gone beyond the events Germany witnessed with the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Dr. Radwan called upon the Canadians to encourage their investors to invest in Egypt especially when the Egyptian markets have started to resettle. Egypt is dedicated, he added, to solving any problems that might face foreign investment in the country.

The current government, even as a caretaker government, still can set and propose policies and long-term plans for development of decided significance in creating job opportunities and establishing social equality.

The minister revealed that there are ongoing efforts by the Administrative Control Agency to review all the laws and legislations with the purpose of revising and ridding them of the loopholes which previously led to corruption. The target is ameliorating economic governance.
