Head of the Tax Authority Mahmoud Mohamed Aly announced a plan to set 26 tax guide centers in the governorates to take over the role of spreading awareness on the new tax system and to receive tax returns. Mr. Aly noted that more centers will be set up in sports centers and post offices. The statements were made during a meeting with board members of commercial chambers under the chairmanship of Mohamed el Masry. The tax chief said the new centers will have autonomy to issue tax cards with the possibility of receiving the due tax from the taxpayer as soon as the tax return is filled out and the value of tax is calculated. Mr. Aly noted that sales tax districts will receive income tax returns as part of an ongoing plan to merge both the sales and income taxes into one authority. He said the Ministry of Finance will review the sales tax and its multiples up to 300,000 pounds. Mr. Aly added that the first district for middle income taxpayers will be operable in Cairo next April while instructions to discipline relations with small taxpayers have been postponed till 2008. A bonus system to dedicated taxpayers is also under study. (source: Al-Gomhuriya)
