In a matter of days, the Ministry of Finance will set new  regulations to raise teachers’ salaries in an effort to improve the living conditions for teachers on limited income.

Minister of Finance Dr. Youssef Boutros Ghali said the first stage in a policy to define a special cadre for teachers has been approved in the State Budget in the new fiscal year and is intended to support the limited income brackets.  He added that a second and a third wave to define teachers’ cadres will take place over the next two years.

Dr. Ghali has said that all employees will benefit from the new pay system in which teachers will be divided into five categories defined by respective  financial limits.

Dr. Ghali said that the new categories are intended to achieve higher pay which is compatible with a teacher’s vocation and will include an additional bonus for teachers who participate in training courses to upgrade their performance and educational supremacy.

Ghali said that the  July raise is ready for cashing in the personnel departments in all ministries and government authorities and will benefit 7.5 million employees.  The minimum for the raise is set at LE 36 and goes all the way up without  limit. Four million employees will receive the minimum hike while the rest will receive a 10% of the salary or the  comprehensive bonus set last year.

The new raise will benefit pensioners by 5.7% where the minimum hike is set at  LE10 and a maximum of LE 60.  The directive allows for receiving simultaneously more than one pension and pensioners can benefit from the raise on both counts even if the raise in such a situation exceeds LE 100.
