Vehicles Returning From Libya to Be Cleared against License or Personal Undertaking

Duties and Taxes on the Cars Coming From Libya to be suspended for 3 Months without Interest or Fees
Clearance Applies to Previous Temporarily Released Cars, and May be Renewable
Ports Continue to Work Daily Round the Clock to Facilitate Exports and Import Movement
Dr. Samir Radwan, the Minister of Finance, gave directives to facilitate customs clearance of cars returning from Libya, allowing for provisional release of vehicles without paying any due fees or taxes. Documents accepted by the Customs Authority, such as license books issued by approved automobile clubs or international licenses, will be sufficient. In the absence of such guarantees a personal undertaking from the car owner and a documented place of stay will be accepted.
The directives come within the framework of the government's efforts to ease burdens on Egyptians returning from Libya following recent developments, said Dr. Radwan, pointing out that the directives waive the due customs duties and other fees for 3 months, which could be extended for another similar period without paying any interest or delay fines. Salloum land port and other ports started to implement the directives on Saturday, he added.
The resolution also includes the extension of the provisional release of cars of Egyptian expatriates in Libya which were temporarily released prior to the recent events. The extension runs for 3 more months following the former release period, without any fees or fines, with the possibility of further extensions only under conditions deemed valid by the Customs Authority, and against valid guarantees, the minister noted.
With regard to the facilities provided for the export sector, customs authorities would continue to work daily round the clock for a smoother customs clearance of Egyptian exports, said the minister. In addition, the authorities will continue to process imports clearances as far as the last Customs Declaration (CD) submitted may allow. This comes within the Ministry of Finance's efforts to maintain and boost a smooth flow of goods and commodities to the markets. The Ministry, meanwhile, coordinates with the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport to provide vehicles for transporting imports inland, Dr. Radwan added.
