The minting authority will begin the circulation of 30 million metallic coins monthly for categories 50PT and 100 PT as part of a plan to circulate 255 million coins in six months for supporting coins of categories 5, 10 and 25 PT. Head of the minting authority Sherif Sadek said the new coins will be circulated as part of a plan by the Ministry of Finance to shuffle the mint authority.  Sadek affirmed that the reform is not related to the movement of prices and inflation.  Sadek explained that the shift to coins is a global move to avert the reliance on paper money. The reform will include management and training of employees and the necessary infrastructural shifts. Other reforms will include the upgrading of equipment to meet the increasing the demand for the circulation of new coins. (source: Ministry of Finance)
