Minister of Finance Dr. Youssef Boutros Ghali said that a draft project is underway to improve the status of educators and teachers in Egypt so that minimum wages for a newly appointed teacher will range between 300-500 pounds.
Placing teachers in special cadres will eventually mean the restructuring of teachers’ payrolls throughout their career. The announcement has been made at a meeting bringing the Ministers of Finance and Education along with leading officials in the Education Syndicate.
Dr. Ghali said that the new project will finally put teachers on a deserved pedestal and will definitively refine the image of the teacher in society the way it has to be. He added that their will also be a special bonus for additional skills such as computer training programs, registering for higher education and other merits.
Minister Ghali said that there are coordinated efforts with the Ministry of Education to eradicate a problem presented in the lack of balance in the financial status alongside the position of the teacher in the teaching hierarchy. Dr. Ghali noted that efforts are underway to secure a financial position in line with the teacher’s credentials.
On his part, Dr. Youssry el Gamal said that there will be tests in place to grade teachers’ performances, adding that the newly placed cadres will ascertain that skillful teachers will continue in the teaching profession and will not have to succumb to involuntary transfers to an administrative cadre to obtain a promotion as is happening now.
