In the latest report issued by the Ministry of Finance, figures reveal a marked improvement in major operations for the state budget in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2006/2007 where earnings and grants from July through September have soared to over 40 billion pounds as opposed to 24.6 billion over the same period last year.  Expenditures however have reached 37 billion pounds compared to 32 billion pounds in the former year creating approximately a three billion pound surplus compared to a seven billion pound deficit last year. The report shows a big rise in public revenues due to a doubling of tax revenues that have soared by approximately three billion pounds in the first quarter of the current year. (source: Al-Akhbar)
