The Ministry of Finance announced the completion of measures necessary for cashing compensations for 2,344 establishments and vehicles which were damaged in the wake of the 25th Jan. Revolution. This covers 30% of the applications placed with the Ministry, 7,500 in total, by commercial, industrial and service establishments in addition to vehicles in various governorates which were stolen or vandalised in the events. A statement released by the Ministry clarified that the task force supervising the cashing of the compensations made it a point to cater first for the needs of the small enterprises, such as kiosks and small commercial and industrial shops together with cabs and trucks, since these are the main source of income for their owners to help them to resume income-gaining activities soon. As for the most important snags that hindered compensation cashing, the statement mentioned the absence of official documents of reference such as tax files registered with the Tax Authority by the applicants. Consequently, a set of guarantees and criteria has been set to protect public funds and to ascertain the rights of the applicants to compensation. The criteria include investigating the veracity of the act of damage and the necessity of any official documents to attest to the relevant activity. The Ministry disclosed that in examining the applications, it transpired that some of them concern the loss of revenues or applying for damages on cases not covered by the system, such as compensation for monetary or financial notes. Establishments covered by insurance are also excluded as they obtain compensation from the relevant insuring companies.
