News Date: 1/24/2007 7:29 AM  Dr. Ghali: the economic reforms reflect a viable cooperation between the private and public sectors in Egypt

In a meeting with Egyptian French business council, Minister Ghali has reiterated that the economic reforms reflect a viable cooperation between the private and public sectors in Egypt.

Ghali noted that the tax reforms have depended on expanding the taxpayers’ base and reduction of the tax rate.  He also noted that the tax base has been expected to be reduced by 17%  but surprisingly the base has soared in the first year by 12% due to an increase in the number of taxpayers.

Ghali noted that the private sector has played a big role in development.  Ghali noted the new direction towards applying the public private partnership through which fifty schools will be built, heralding a marked role to be played by the private sector in financing the schools.  The government is currently strategizing a legal framework for the setting up of the PPP.
