News Date: 9/19/2007 4:40 AM  Dr. Ghali: The law does not exempt members of parliament from paying customs dues on their vehicles

Minister of Finance Dr. Youssef Boutros Ghali has reiterated that the law does not exempt members of parliament from paying customs dues on their vehicles which are shipped in from foreign countries.  Ghali’s statement was delivered in a letter to People’s Assembly Speaker Dr. Fathy Serour in response to a  query from parliament member Mostafa Bakry claiming that the latter was the one who refused a request from parliamentarians to exempt their cars from customs fees. Ghali aimed to clarify that it is the law which regulated the exemption or amendments on customs and fees and the law does stipulate an exemption on vehicles belonging to parliamentarians.
