Egypt customs authority, trade representation sign cooperation agreement
Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance, and Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between Ahmed Amawi, Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, and Dr. Abdelaziz El-Sherif, Head of the Egyptian Commercial Representation, as part of joint efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy.
The two ministers emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral coordination to facilitate trade flows, reduce customs clearance time, and leverage the Egyptian Commercial Representation to improve the efficiency of the joint risk management framework and accelerate customs clearance procedures.
They noted that the next phase will see expanded cooperation between the Egyptian Customs Authority and the Egyptian Commercial Representation in the area of automated valuation of goods, through engagement with producing and supplying companies abroad, in addition to facilitating procedures for verifying the accuracy of data and commercial documentation related to Egyptian imports.
Ahmed Amawi, Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, stated that the protocol forms part of broader efforts to develop the customs operating system, highlighting that cooperation with the Egyptian Commercial Representation is a key pillar in supporting pre- and post-clearance verification mechanisms for commercial documents and data, ensuring accuracy while expediting and facilitating procedures.
Dr. Abdelaziz El-Sherif, Head of the Egyptian Commercial Representation, said that the signing of the protocol further strengthens the existing cooperation between the two sides, noting that Egyptian commercial offices abroad play a pivotal role in supporting requests from the Customs Authority to verify certificates of origin and commercial invoices, thereby contributing to enhanced efficiency of the foreign trade system.
