The Customs Authority has defined new rules for tax exemptions on cars owned by Egyptian residents in Lebanon in view of the Israeli aggression. Head of the Customs Authority Galal Abul Fotouh has announced Minister of Finance Dr. Youssef Boutros Ghali has authorized flexible rules to issue one month temporary permits renewable for one more month without duties, in return for postponement of tax for two months provided the owner presents a personal guarantee to the customs authority to re-export the car, deliver it to customs or pay the due taxes and fees once the temporary license expires. While ascertaining that there is a growing number of Egyptian citizens returning from Lebanon, Mr. Abul Fotouh said that an agreement is being forged with the Ministry of Trade and Industy to except returning cars from a clause related to the car model as has been ruled during the Gulf war. Head of the customs authority Mr. Abul Fetouh has added that the situation in Lebanon presents a national crisis that has led to urgent measures and in view of the inability of returnees from Lebanon to offer financial guarantees.
