Finance Minister: Budget Priorities Realigned to Address Exceptional Circumstances

Egypt’s Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk announced that public spending priorities for the final quarter of the current fiscal year have been realigned to address the impact of ongoing exceptional circumstances, while ensuring the continuity of economic and productive activity.

Kouchouk said all government entities are committed to rationalizing expenditures, with spending directed toward essential needs. Top priorities include securing the supply of food commodities and medicines, meeting the needs of the education sector, and ensuring adequate provision for the energy sector, including petroleum and electricity.

The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to allocating the necessary financial resources to maintain the stability of core public services provided to citizens.

As part of expenditure control measures, Kouchouk noted that work on energy-intensive projects has been slowed or postponed under current conditions. He added that there is full coordination between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to rationalize capital spending and halt the launch of new projects.

He also highlighted efforts to curb non-essential spending by reducing expenditures on training, travel, and events, as well as postponing other items that can be deferred at this stage.

Kouchouk stressed that the government is simultaneously supporting budget entities in strengthening their ability to generate own-source revenues, in a move aimed at easing pressure on the state budget and enhancing fiscal sustainability.
