Finance Minister Commends Public Prosecution’s Efforts to Maximize Returns from Seized Assets

Ahmed Kouchouk, Egypt’s Minister of Finance, praised the Public Prosecution for its efforts to maximize returns from seized assets and confiscations, stressing their role in strengthening state resources

Kouchouk extended thanks to all those contributing to generating additional revenues to fund key initiatives, including healthcare, education, and flagship social programs such as “Decent Life” and “Takaful and Karama.”

Speaking during a ceremony organized by the Public Prosecution Egypt to hand over silver bullion and land ownership documents for sites cleared of impounded vehicles, in the presence of Mohamed Shawky, the Prosecutor General, and several ministers, Kouchouk affirmed that the government is working to enhance state resources to support spending on citizens’ priorities and improve the quality of public services.

The minister noted that Egypt aims to achieve optimal economic returns from state assets for the benefit of low- and middle-income groups.

He revealed that the Egyptian Mint Authority has received 1,218 kilograms of silver to be reprocessed into commemorative coin issuances for the benefit of the state.

Kouchouk added that the Public Prosecution’s asset seizure and collection system has witnessed significant progress, resulting in an increase of more than 200% in total collections.

For his part, the Prosecutor General stated that while the Public Prosecution remains a core judicial body responsible for investigation and prosecution, it has also played an active role in addressing economic challenges through its management of seized assets, impounded vehicles, and criminal claims.

He explained that the Prosecution has adopted a governance-based approach in managing valuable seized assets, transforming them from idle holdings into economically productive resources.

The first phase included the transfer of gold bullion to the Central Bank of Egypt, followed by a second phase involving the conversion of confiscated silver into bullion and the handover of more than 1.2 tonnes to the Ministry of Finance.

The Prosecutor General also reviewed progress in managing impounded vehicles, including upgrading storage facilities, improving efficiency, and eliminating congestion.

These efforts enabled the return of a large number of vehicles to their owners and the full clearance of the “15 May” area, alongside the release of several other sites nationwide, paving the way for their redevelopment in support of development projects.

He further highlighted the adoption of a modern approach to managing criminal claims, based on digitalization, classification, prioritization, regular follow-up, and legally compliant administrative seizure procedures, enhancing collection efficiency and safeguarding state rights.

The Public Prosecution affirmed that these achievements reflect an evolving understanding of its role—extending beyond criminal prosecution to actively contributing to the protection of public funds, preservation of state assets, and support for the national economy.

The event was attended by Ahmed Abdelrazek, Permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, and Gamal Hussein, Head of the Treasury and Mint Authority.
