Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority Mahmoud Mohamed Aly has issued directives to all districts to review tax returns in order to conclude the real number of taxpayers and the real volume in tax arrears. He reiterated that the plan to dissolve arrears depends on contacting taxpayers and urging them to pay outside of court in cases where issues emerge. He noted that the new tax law has awarded the chance for reconciliation in matters where files are set to be seen by the court. He added that he has given his directives to tax officers to attempt peaceful reconciliation and make use of the new tax law. He also noted that the tax authority is prepared for the new season to receive tax returns beginning next January for 2005 tax returns. (Source: El-Messaa)
