Kouchouk Meets Global Investors in FIM Partners Forum: Egypt’s Economy Regains Momentum and Investor Confidence
Cairo — October 28, 2025 — Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk participated in a virtual meeting with a large group of international investors, organized by FIM Partners, a leading firm specializing in investment management across emerging and frontier markets.
During the session, Kouchouk presented positive indicators of Egypt’s economic performance, confirming that the growth rate surpassed expectations to reach 4.4%, driven by strong results in manufacturing, tourism, communications, and information technology. He added that the private sector is now leading investment activity, recording a 73% increase in the last fiscal year.
The Minister emphasized that Egypt’s economy has regained investor confidence and become an attractive destination offering diverse, competitive opportunities. He noted that ongoing economic and fiscal reforms have produced a primary surplus of 3.6% of GDP—the highest in years—while budget-sector debt fell by 10% of GDP within two years, and external public debt declined by USD 4 billion.
Kouchouk highlighted a 35% rise in tax revenues without imposing new taxes, reflecting stronger economic activity and the expansion of the tax base through a partnership of trust. He pointed out that foreign direct investment (FDI) surged to around USD 12.2 billion, with broad diversification across sectors.
He also revealed that remittances from Egyptians abroad jumped 66% to USD 36 billion, while net foreign assets improved and inflation rates dropped sharply, allowing the government to begin lowering interest rates. The Minister added that Egypt is working to convert part of Arab deposits and bilateral debts into productive investments to further reduce public debt.
Preliminary results for the first quarter of the current fiscal year indicate sustained improvement, with a primary surplus exceeding EGP 170 billion and a continued decline in government debt.
Kouchouk concluded that international markets and credit rating agencies have started to view Egypt more positively, reflecting a more comprehensive understanding of the country’s reform progress and economic resilience.
