Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance, affirmed that the government is a key partner of the private sector and all serious initiatives aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy and accelerating growth and exports. He stressed the government's commitment to supporting ideas and initiatives that promote entrepreneurship and service exports as important drivers of economic development.
Speaking at the launch of the Egyptian Startups and Entrepreneurs Institution “Start Up Egypt,” attended by investors, entrepreneurs, government officials, and private sector representatives, Kouchouk highlighted the significant growth potential of Egypt’s information and communications technology sector and its strong prospects for expanding into international markets.
The Minister noted that the Ministry of Finance is working to simplify the tax system and make it more transparent, predictable, and business-friendly for investors and entrepreneurs. He added that the simplified tax regime for businesses with annual revenues below EGP 20 million represents a valuable opportunity for startups, offering a highly simplified fixed tax mechanism based on revenues, alongside a wide range of incentives and facilitation measures designed to support entrepreneurial growth and expansion.
Kouchouk emphasized that “Start Up Egypt” represents an important platform that brings startups together under one umbrella and contributes to strengthening Egypt’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. He explained that such an institutional framework facilitates networking among startups and provides an effective channel for entrepreneurs to present challenges, exchange experiences, and identify new opportunities for growth and collaboration.
For his part, Dr. Maged Ghoneima, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of “Start Up Egypt,” stated that the institution aims to serve as a bridge between government support programs and startup founders, bringing together investors, policymakers, and entrepreneurs around a shared objective of empowering Egyptian startup founders in Egypt and abroad throughout the various stages of their business growth.
Ghoneima announced a package of strategic programs and partnerships that will officially launch in July, including sector-specific business accelerators in food industries in partnership with Domty, machinery manufacturing with Simplex, and educational technology with Almentor. These initiatives will be followed by seven additional strategic partnerships in the coming period. He noted that membership in these accelerators will be offered completely free of charge to members.
Operating under the slogan “Grow with Those Who Understand the Journey,” the institution seeks to bridge communication gaps within Egypt’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. Recognizing that many promising startups possess strong potential but often lack access to experience, networks, and guidance, “Start Up Egypt” aims to provide founders with an integrated support community that connects them to expertise, mentorship, investment opportunities, and strategic partnerships, enabling faster growth and expansion both locally and internationally while strengthening the contribution of startups to economic development and job creation.
