Minister of Finance in an Open Dialogue with Investors from Jeffries and HSBC in Washington: Egypt’s Economic Path is Balanced, Stable, and Consistently Improving — Now a Strong Magnet for Private Investment
Egypt’s Minister of Finance, Ahmed Kouchouk, affirmed that the country’s economic trajectory remains balanced, stable, and steadily improving, adding that Egypt has become an increasingly attractive destination for private sector investment.
Speaking in an open dialogue with investors from Jeffries and HSBC on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, Kouchouk said that preliminary indicators for the first quarter of the current fiscal year paint a comprehensive picture of continued improvement in Egypt’s economic performance.
He explained that the primary surplus has exceeded targets, while tax revenues are rising sharply, reflecting both a stronger pace of economic activity and growing confidence. He added that net foreign assets have reached healthy levels, inflation indicators have declined significantly, and interest rates have begun a gradual downward trend.
Kouchouk emphasized that the sustained decline in inflation will ultimately lead to a logical and healthy reduction in interest rates, benefiting both investors and citizens. He noted that there is ongoing coordination and full alignment among all ministries and government entities, resulting in coherent and integrated economic policies.
He highlighted the government’s efforts to maintain an open and continuous dialogue with the business community, built on trust, partnership, and tax certainty. The aim, he explained, is to jointly develop more efficient and equitable tax and customs systems that safeguard the rights of both taxpayers and the state.
The Minister stressed that the private sector has become more competitive and is capable of transforming Egypt into a regional hub for manufacturing and exports, adding that the government has observed a swift and encouraging response from private enterprises to the ongoing tax reform program based on mutual trust.
Kouchouk concluded by noting that the Ministry of Finance is expanding fiscal space to increase spending on health, education, social protection, and economic support programs, emphasizing that stimulating economic activity and reducing public debt remain top priorities of Egypt’s fiscal policy.
