Minister of Finance Dr. Youssef Boutros Ghali has announced that the Ministry has completed research on the general tax law on sales and its amendments in efforts to upgrade sales tax and value added tax using a unified rate that will simplify the implementation of tax on basic goods while discounting amounts already paid in the various stages.  International experts will be employed to guarantee the success of the mission.

Dr. Ghali said that a comprehensive project for the computerization of the tax authority is underway in efforts to facilitate the storage of data.  The steps are in part to implement the e-government which will facilitate the communication of the taxpayers with the tax authority via the internet.

A tax authority website has already been launched.
