Non-Circulating Gold and Silver Commemorative Coins Issued to Celebrate the Grand Egyptian Museum

Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk announced that the Treasury and Mint Authority has issued non-circulating commemorative coins made of gold and silver to document and celebrate the landmarks of the Grand Egyptian Museu

Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk announced that the Treasury and Mint Authority has issued non-circulating commemorative coins made of gold and silver to document and celebrate the landmarks of the Grand Egyptian Museum, one of Egypt’s most iconic civilizational projects presented to the world in the modern era — and the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single ancient civilization.

Dr. Sherif Hazem, Advisor to the Minister for Engineering Affairs, explained that the commemorative coin set includes six denominations minted in gold and silver — EGP 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 — each featuring a unique design showcasing the museum’s distinctive architectural and archaeological elements, including the Hanging Obelisk, the Grand Façade and Main Entrance, Khufu’s Solar Boats, the Statue of King Ramses II, and the Golden Mask of Tutankhamun.

He expressed appreciation to Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum, for his constructive collaboration, which included coordination for issuing an accompanying certificate with each coin, detailing the historical background and technical specifications of the design.

Mr. Gamal Hussein, the new Head of the Treasury and Mint Authority, stated that the collection was designed and produced by a specialized team of designers, engineers, and skilled craftsmen at the Authority, adhering to the highest standards of quality and technical precision.

He added that the release schedule and sale locations for these special editions will be announced in conjunction with the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum. This collection, he noted, continues a series of distinguished commemorative issues that have previously marked Egypt’s major national projects, including the New Suez Canal, the New Administrative Capital, and the “Decent Life” (Hayah Karima) initiative.
