New steps have been launched in efforts to merge the General Tax and Sales Authorities and set up tax districts to serve small and middle income taxpayers to run parallel to tax centers that have been set to serve the high tier businesses. The process will include the swap of employees at the sales and general tax authorities to train employees to handle tax laws during the interim period. Employees will also be moved among the tax districts. The steps are the first to mark the launch of a unified tax authority and are intended to train employees to take on the system under supervisors. Expert on tax systems Fouad Abu Ismail has announced that the program will include all employees until a sheriff district is put in charge of all tax activities. Programs will be underway to replenish senior officials on the new taxation ideology after the merge. (source: Al-Akhbar)
